Always First Demolition

Dearest,

Hoping this finds you warm. Writing in with an announcement: dispersed will play host to a series of events in early January in address of our muse, Eva Hesse. As you may know, dispersed has been located in Hesse's former apartment (1965-'70) on the Bowery for nearly two years. We are looking to celebrate our second anniversary in the space and Eva's legacy. We hope you will join us -- we would so love to see you here atop these old pine boards.

Here are the details:

Always First Demolition, a group show curated by Vanessa Kowalski, will open with performance by Lizzy Gabay on January 2nd at 7pm. The exhibition is comprised of works and gestures from female-identifying artists whose practices span installation, video, performance, sculpture, creative writing, and more. Contributions have emerged from many corners of the globe to question what it means to persist in the pursuit of the seemingly impossible in a world that continues to build us apart.

Artists include Amy Beecher, Sanna Helena Berger, Andrea Coyotzi Borja, Lizzy Gabay, Anna Jensen, Delaney Lee, Kelly Macario, Allison MacDonald, Andrea McGinty, Maya Meissner, Valeria Nekhaeva, Yumiko Ono, Lainey Racah, Elham Rahmati, Molly Rapp, Lauren Stroh, Vanessa Thill, Michelle Hernandez Vega, and Suzanna Zak.

The show will be punctuated by three events:

Friday, January 5, 7 pm - A screening by filmmaker Sofia Theodore-Pierce and friends.

Wednesday, January 10, 7 pm - A performance by artist Bryndís Hrönn Ragnarsdóttir, joining us from Iceland.

Friday, January 12, 7 pm - In order to, a performance by choreographer Hilary Ives and friends.

Save the dates, dear friends, save them! We will be following up with you as the weeks progress with further detail about all happenings. And stay tuned for a special announcement ahead.

With love,
