Resistance 01.10
dearest,
our memories of Iceland are green. we were there in the summertime, and the 22-hour sunlight kept the place in perpetual bloom. that time seems an eternity ago in this blizzard. new york appears to be vying for the title: land of ice, of snow, of cold. but we write with good news: the sunshine of iceland, one Bryndís Hrönn Ragnarsdóttir, will soon be among us.
on wednesday, january 10, Bryndís will present Resistance 01.10, a performance in six variations on the themes of time, water, and assimilation. it begins with 01.10 of the year 1700, a date that does not exist in Icelandic calendars (it was dismissed along with ten other days when the switch to the Gregorian calendar was made). the second variation is a recording made on 21.12. 2017, facing west. the following variations are meditations on words from different times.
join us as we raise a glass to Bryndís. doors open at 7 pm and the performance will begin at 7:30 pm and will last about 30 minutes. it will be followed by a festive gathering.
remember that the group show Always First Demolition, curated by Vanessa Kowalski, is up through the 12th. we hope you will enjoy that show after Bryndís' performance.
friends and lovers welcome.
hope to see you,
